Main Street + Small Business
It was with an understanding of the importance of Main Street and small business that Livingston County established a downtown revitalization program – the Downtown Partnership – with the goal of preserving and enhancing the businesses, buildings, and public spaces that are emblematic of what “Liv Co” is all about. Combining a mix of innovative incentives with the presence of a full-time downtown coordinator has resulted in a commitment from both the public and private sectors that is visible in renovated buildings, new storefront businesses, apartments, and increased activity in the nine, historic downtowns.
Roughly 800 employees exist across Livingston County’s downtowns, making “downtown” our largest private-sector employer by market segment. Our office has a proven record of being able to leverage public funds whereby every $1.00 in grant funding has been matched by $1.41 in private dollars for downtown building restorations. Solid management skills and a strong sense of innovation are present in the region, providing an excellent foundation for local entrepreneurship.
